When selecting your t-shirts:
Don't forget that a t-shirt quilt is ONE OF A KIND! What you include in the quilt makes it unique!

- Always pre-wash and be sure shirts are clean. This will eliminate the possibility of colors bleeding & remove dirt/body oils, smoke & pet hair. Please DO NOT use fabric softener or dryer sheets. This causes the stabilizer needed to keep your t-shirt material from stretching from adhering to the shirts.
- Please DO NOT cut out the blocks yourself! The stabilizer needs to be added before the block size is cut.
- Choose shirts that have sentimental value. Don't forget sweatshirts, uniforms, polo's and sport jerseys!!
- Shirts that have graphics on both sides counts as 2 squares. If you wish to only use one side, please specify.
- Shirts that have small graphics can be combined into one large square!
- Shirts with stains or small holes that have a special meaning can be incorporated into the quilt. Embrace those imperfections and cherish the memories! Just remember, I won't be able to remove the stains, so they will be visible.
- No designs are too large or small. I can combine several graphics into one block or adjust the spacing if a graphic is larger than the others. Here are some examples of combining elements from shirts to make a square. The Taekwondo block is from the actual uniform.
Base Cost includes:
- 100% top quality cotton fabric - a tone-on-tone or small print fabric in a co-ordinating color (depending on the shirt graphics) will be used for the sashing (which is a length of fabric between each shirt) plus the border. Sashing makes the quilt more durable as well as enhances the design and keep the focus on your t-shirts. The back of your quilt will be a neutral or small print fabric. The fabric for the binding will also be included. (please note - your quilt can be made without the sashing if you prefer...see below)
- Design fees and labor.
- Thread from Superior Threads to ensure the quilting is stitched with high quality thread and will stabilize the shirt fabric to keep it from rippling.
- High quality batting for a soft, comfortable feel.
- Pellon stabilizer is ironed on the back of each block to reinforce the shirts and keep them from stretching/rippling.
- A 4" computer printed Info label is added to the back of the quilt which can include recipient's name, date & message (photos may be included for an additional cost).
- Digital quilting design in the pattern/theme of your choice. Large selection of designs available. New designs are added each month!
- Machine stitched binding included. Hand stitched binding for a professional finished look is available for an additional cost.
The sizes listed below are based on a standard 14" t-shirt block layout and includes sashing & a border. SIZES AND PRICES LISTED BELOW ARE ESTIMATES. The best way to determine number of squares, how it will lay out, etc., is to schedule a time to meet if you are local. Photos of the shirts (front &/or back) are used in determining the information needed for all potential clients who are a distance.

Additional Options Available
- Backing fabric can be upgraded to a fun print (based on availability) @ $5/yd, or you may provide the fabric (a deduction will be taken from the base cost). If the specialty backing is a print that needs to be matched up to hide the joining seam, there will be an additional charge of $10/seam. If you wish to use a favorite blanket on the back, be aware that I will need to trim the edge and that your quilt will need to be 10" smaller (length & width) to accommodate the tension bars on the longarm.
- A double border may be added for $30
- Add Photos - include fun vacation, senior portraits, etc! $10 - $25 each depending on size of photos.
- A Hanging sleeve is definitely encouraged if you plan to hang your quilt on a wall so it isn't damaged. $30 for Lap - twin size, or $50 for Full - King size. All wall hanging size quilts automatically receive a sleeve.
- Add corner connecting squares of a contrasting color - $10
- 8" x 10" full size label with color photos - $25
- 8" x 10" full size label black ink no photos - $10
- 1/2 page label black ink no photo - $5
Have a cherished childhood item and wish to have it incorporated into the quilt? Not a problem. This is a photo of a child's baby blanket that her parents wanted included on her t-shirt quilt. It was literally a scrap...color had washed out and it was hanging in threads. I managed to "make" the blanket into a square mat to frame the label which included a beautiful letter and photos of the recipient growing up. It came out beautifully and the clients were thrilled. The additional cost of $5 - $20+ (depends on difficulty of incorporating the item and labor).
Some great ideas to include are patches from boy/girl scouts or from favorite baseball caps!

There are typically 3 types of layouts used when making t-shirt quilts. The photo on the left includes a sashing of either neutral or specialty fabric between each graphic so each shirt stands out on it's own. The middle photo consists of shirt blocks all cut to the same size without adding fabric between each. The photo on the right shows many different size shirt blocks used to feature as many shirts as possible.
